5- Panel Urine Drug Tests screen for most commonly abused prescribed drugs, such as cocaine, marijuana, phencyclidine, amphetamines, and opiates. Usually, the urine drug test method is used for 5 panel drug tests.
Pre-Employment Drug Testing
Before operating a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV), all CDL holders—whether owner-operators or employees—must undergo a pre-employment drug test and receive a negative result before beginning safety-sensitive duties.
Post-Accident Testing
Following certain accidents, drivers may be required to take immediate drug and alcohol tests based on accident severity, injuries sustained, and DOT regulations to determine potential liability.
Random Drug Testing
To stay DOT-compliant, CDL drivers must be part of a random drug testing consortium, where both owner-operators and employees are subject to unannounced tests throughout the year.
Reasonable Suspicion Testing
If an employer has reasonable suspicion that an employee may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol while on duty, the employee can be required to undergo immediate testing.
Return-to-Duty Testing
Drivers who have tested positive for drugs or alcohol must complete the return-to-duty process, which includes a negative drug test result before resuming work responsibilities.
Follow-Up Testing
After successfully completing the return-to-duty process, drivers must undergo additional follow-up tests over the next 12 months, as determined by a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP).
